Research: How Eating Pizza Can Help You Lose Weight

Eating pizza can help you lose weight, a new study reveals.

Does this mean pizza has become healthy all of a sudden? Not exactly. However, a recent study did find that people who allowed themselves a day of indulgence while dieting were more likely to stick to their diets for a longer duration.

According to Men’s Health, the scientists put the participants on a diet that was limited to only 10,500 calories per week.

But half of those participants were allowed to eat anything they wanted to eat on Sundays.

After two weeks, the two groups had both succeeded in losing weight. While there was no difference in the amount of weight lost in two groups, those who had taken Sundays off to have their favorite food were happier and more motivated to continue working towards their weight-loss goals.

Bottom line: Occasional indulgence makes dieting more sustainable.

What this study proves is that self-restraint can make you feel drained and grumpy, resulting in you giving up on your weight loss diet.

However, if you look forward to a “free day of indulgence” where you enjoy foods that wouldn’t normally fall within your diet plan, you’ll be more likely to stick to your diet long-term.

The key here is not to confuse “free day” with “binge day”. Have your favorite foods in moderation. The study participants had their pizza and other treats in moderation so they could stay within their weekly calorie limits.

So if you want to lose weight, don’t give up on your favorite foods completely. Go ahead and enjoy that slice of pizza once in a while.
